Abstract

A new species from the family Niphargidae (Amphipoda), Niphargus krasnodarus sp. n., from subterranean waters of Fanagoriyskaya Cave near Krasnodar (E. of the Black Sea, Russia), is described and figured, and its taxonomical position in relation to known species of the genus Niphargus Schiödte, 1849 from the former Soviet Union is analyzed. The absence of N. krasnodarus sp. n. females in the collection limited more detailed conclusions about the taxonomical position of N. krasnodarus sp. n. within the genus Niphargus.
